Visiting Lecturer for Introduction to Social Sciences

Surabaya (07/10) – The Social Studies Education Program at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL), Universitas Negeri Surabaya (Unesa), had the honor of hosting Dr. Mutiani, M.Pd., a lecturer from Universitas Lambung Mangkurat, as part of a visiting lecturer program. The event sparked great enthusiasm among students attending the guest lecture on “Introduction to Social Sciences,” where Dr. Mutiani explored the crucial distinction between knowledge and science.

In her lecture, Dr. Mutiani explained that knowledge stems from human experience and can be subjective, depending on individual experiences and socio-cultural contexts. Science, on the other hand, she continued, is knowledge that has been systematically organized and validated through scientific methods.

She went on to outline the four key characteristics of science: it is systematic, objective, follows scientific methods, and is universal. “Science must be tested and objectively proven, making it widely accepted without being influenced by individual opinions,” she noted. 

This lecture provided students with fresh insights, encouraging them to critically differentiate between general knowledge and scientifically validated knowledge. With this understanding, they are expected to analyze social phenomena around them more deeply and in accordance with scientific standards.
