Stadium General of Social Sciences Education Department in Palangka Raya University

On Friday, October 11, 2024, the Department of Social Science Education at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) of Palangka Raya University (UPR) held a stadium general titled “Globalization and Its Impact on Local Culture.” The event took place in the lecture hall of the Social Science Education Department at FKIP UPR and was attended by students and faculty members from various disciplines.

The keynote speaker, Dr. Mutiani, S.Pd., M.Pd., a lecturer from the Social Science Education Program at Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM), aimed to strengthen the relationship and collaboration between ULM and UPR, particularly in the field of Social Science education.

In her PowerPoint presentation, Dr. Mutiani delved into the topic of globalization and its significant effects on local cultures. She explained how the waves of modernization threaten the existence of local cultures and emphasized the importance of awareness in preserving them amid the fast-paced changes of today.

One intriguing aspect of the lecture was the introduction of the concept of Ethnopedagogy, an educational approach that prioritizes local values and wisdom. Dr. Mutiani encouraged participants to understand and integrate ethnopedagogy into their education, especially in Social Sciences.

Following the presentation, Dr. Mutiani opened an interactive Q&A session, where students enthusiastically posed various questions about the impact of globalization and how ethnopedagogy could be applied in Indonesia’s educational curriculum.

This activity aimed to provide new insights for students on the challenges posed by globalization and ways to address them, particularly in the context of local culture. It also marks the beginning of closer cooperation between ULM and UPR in the field of Social Science education in the future.
