Banjarbaru, September 29, 2025 — The Department of Social Science Education, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), Universitas Lambung Mangkurat (ULM), held a Socialization of Vision, Mission, Goals, and Strategies with stakeholders and alumni on Monday, September 29, 2025, in Banjarbaru. The event served as a strategic forum to strengthen collaboration, gather feedback, and ensure alignment between the department’s academic direction and the evolving needs of society and the education sector.
The activity was attended by representatives from educational institutions, government agencies, partner organizations, and alumni of the Social Science Education Study Program. The session aimed to communicate the department’s vision and development strategies while inviting valuable insights from stakeholders to support continuous program improvement.
The vision of the Department of Social Science Education is to become a center for the development of Social Science Education studies based on ethnopedagogy in Southeast Asia by 2039. This vision reflects ULM’s commitment to positioning local wisdom as the foundation of academic excellence and regional leadership in social science education.
In realizing this vision, the department presented four missions:

To deliver undergraduate education through interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary, and transdisciplinary approaches based on ethnopedagogy, equipping students to solve social issues at local, national, and global levels.

To conduct ethnopedagogy-based research in the field of Social Science Education.

To carry out community service initiatives as the practical implementation of research results, providing meaningful contributions to addressing social problems.

To strengthen cooperation with various institutions at home and abroad to enhance education, research, and community service.
The department also reaffirmed its goals, which include producing competent and ethical social science educators, developing innovative learning products that highlight local potential, publishing ethnopedagogical research, implementing research-based community service, and expanding institutional networks to support the Tri Dharma of Higher Education.
Aligned with the strategic plan of Universitas Lambung Mangkurat and FKIP ULM for the short term (2020–2025) and long term (2020–2035), the Department of Social Science Education continues to develop its curriculum, learning innovation, and partnership programs to remain adaptive and future-oriented.
During the discussion session, alumni and stakeholders shared valuable perspectives on strengthening the relevance of the curriculum to current educational needs, improving graduate employability, and enhancing collaboration in research and community programs. Their input was noted as essential for shaping the department’s roadmap in the coming years.
The Head of the Department of Social Science Education expressed appreciation for the active participation of alumni and stakeholders, stating:
“This activity is an important step in ensuring that our program remains responsive and aligned with societal needs. The collaboration and feedback from stakeholders and alumni are crucial in achieving our long-term vision to become a leading ethnopedagogy-based center of excellence in Southeast Asia.”
The event concluded with a commitment from all participants to continue fostering synergy between the university, alumni, and partner institutions. Through this collaboration, the Department of Social Science Education, FKIP ULM, aims to build a more impactful academic ecosystem that supports sustainable education and social development in the region.
