Teacher Assistance Training for Students: A Strategic Step Towards Professional Educators
Banjarmasin, January 9, 2025 – The Bachelor of Social Studies Education (IPS) Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM), held a teacher assistance training session as a strategic effort to prepare students for the challenges of the education sector. The event, hosted in Room 18 of FKIP ULM, welcomed 58 students from the 2022 cohort and ran from 8:30 AM to 11:15 AM WITA.
Dr. Mutiani, S.Pd., M.Pd., Coordinator of the Social Studies Education Program, emphasized the importance of this training as a crucial phase in the sixth semester. “This activity not only prepares students for teaching practice but also equips them for fieldwork and thesis proposal development. It’s a vital stage toward completing their studies,” she noted.
Guided by moderator Fatwa Nur’aini, S.Pd., M.Pd., the event featured three speakers delivering essential insights to enhance student competencies.
Prof. Dr. Drs. Ersis Warmansyah Abbas, BA, M.Pd., opened the session by highlighting the importance of ethics during teacher assistance. He stressed that students are not substitutes for teachers but learners who observe and adopt teaching patterns in schools. “Ethics involve polite communication, professional appearance, and adherence to school regulations,” he explained.
The second session, led by Prof. Dr. Drs. Bambang Subiyakto, M.Hum., provided technical guidance based on Chapter 6 of the teaching practice manual. He also reiterated the significance of maintaining communication ethics, professional conduct, and discipline during the program.
Closing the event, Dr. Syaharuddin, M.A., elaborated on the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum in teacher assistance. He stated that while the curriculum allows for student innovation in the learning process, it also demands greater flexibility and creativity. “Students must adapt to school needs while bringing fresh, innovative ideas to the classroom,” he added.
Students will continue their preparation with sessions on January 10 and 13, 2025, for comprehensive readiness before entering the field. This program aims to produce educators who are excellent, professional, and uphold integrity.
Through this initiative, ULM reaffirms its commitment to shaping future educators who excel not only academically but also ethically, with a strong dedication to advancing the education sector.
