Malaysia – The Doctoral Program of Social Science Education, Graduate School, Universitas Lambung Mangkurat (ULM), conducted three international academic and community service activities in Malaysia from October 23 to 26, 2023. These events aimed to expand ULM’s global academic network and promote its commitment to the internationalization of education, research, and community service.
1. Guest Lecture at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (October 23, 2023)
The first agenda took place at the Faculty of Education, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), where Dr. Syaharuddin, M.A., from the Doctoral Program of Social Science Education, served as a guest lecturer. This session was designed to foster cross-border academic dialogue, promote joint research and publications, and initiate visiting scientist programs.
During the session, Dr. Syaharuddin delivered a lecture highlighting educational and socio-cultural development in Southeast Asia. The UKM faculty responded enthusiastically to the collaboration initiative and expressed interest in continuing academic partnerships with ULM.
2. Community Service at UNAIS Elderly Boarding School, Bangi (October 25, 2023)
The second activity focused on community service and was held at UNAIS Elderly Islamic Boarding School in Bangi. Dr. Syaharuddin delivered a thematic session titled “Building Social Values in Boarding School Life”, emphasizing values such as Islamic brotherhood, honesty, social responsibility, and tolerance.
This initiative marks the beginning of a meaningful collaboration between ULM and UNAIS in developing socially grounded educational programs for elderly community members in a faith-based setting.
3. Educational Outreach at Sekolah Kebangsaan Dato’ Mas’ud, Perak (October 26, 2023)
The third and final event took place at Sekolah Kebangsaan Dato’ Mas’ud in Bagan Serai, Perak. This activity introduced Banjar cultural values through school-based learning activities in a session titled “Integrating Banjar Cultural Values into School Learning Activities”.
Dr. Syaharuddin presented core Banjar values such as Waja Sampai Kaputing (resilience), baiman (faith), bauntung (effort-based fortune), and cangkal (diligence), highlighting their relevance in developing students’ character and identity.
Conclusion and Future Collaboration
All three activities were successfully conducted by Dr. Syaharuddin, M.A., as the official delegate of the doctoral program. These engagements not only showcased ULM’s active role in academic and social diplomacy but also reinforced its strategic vision of becoming a leading university in Asia-Pacific.
The Doctoral Program of Social Science Education looks forward to sustained collaboration with Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, UNAIS Boarding School, and Sekolah Kebangsaan Dato’ Mas’ud for further academic, research, and community initiatives.
