Spreading Kindness at Dawn: Social Science Education Students of FKIP ULM Hold “Sedekah Subuh” Charity Activity During Ramadan

Banjarmasin, March 7, 2026 — Students from the Department of Social Science Education, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), Universitas Lambung Mangkurat (ULM), through the Social Science Education Student Association (HIMA PIPS), successfully organized a charitable activity titled “Sedekah Subuh” during the holy month of Ramadan. The initiative aimed to foster empathy, solidarity, and social awareness among students toward the surrounding community.

The activity began with an opening briefing delivered by the Chairperson of HIMA PIPS, followed by a collective prayer to ensure the smooth implementation of the program. The event served not only as a humanitarian initiative but also as a platform for strengthening the values of compassion and generosity among students.

The activity involved not only members of the HIMA PIPS board but also active students from the 2023, 2024, and 2025 cohorts who voluntarily participated in distributing food packages to community members in need. The distribution took place at dawn, around 04:30 WITA, reflecting the spirit of sharing during one of the most blessed times of the day, particularly during Ramadan.

The distribution of food packages was carried out across three locations in Banjarmasin: the HKSN area, Belitung, and Kayutangi. A total of 98 basic food packages were distributed to residents in need. The packages were made possible through donations collected from lecturers, students, and parents of Social Science Education students at FKIP ULM, demonstrating a strong sense of collective care and solidarity within the academic community.

At each location, members of the student association and participating students directly approached community members along the streets to deliver the food packages with warmth and respect. The interactions between students and residents reflected a genuine spirit of social concern and togetherness.

The Chairperson of the Social Science Education Student Association expressed hope that the program would strengthen students’ empathy and awareness of social realities in society.

“Through this Sedekah Subuh activity, we hope students will not only focus on academic pursuits but also develop social sensitivity and a spirit of sharing with others, especially during the blessed month of Ramadan,” the Chairperson stated.

Beyond providing immediate assistance, the activity also reinforced humanitarian values and social solidarity, aligning with the role of university students as agents of positive change within society.

The event concluded with a group photo session as a symbol of togetherness and as documentation of the meaningful activity. The moment served as a warm closing to a morning of sharing and gratitude, highlighting the strong bond between students and the community they serve.
