Socialization of Vision, Mission, Goals, and Strategies of the Social Science Education Department Welcomes 2025 Freshmen
Banjarmasin, August 15, 2025 — The Department of Social Science Education, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), Universitas Lambung Mangkurat (ULM), held a Socialization of Vision, Mission, Goals, and Strategies on Friday, August 15, 2025, in Lecture Room 39. The activity was attended by the 2025 cohort of Social Science Education students and served as an important introduction to the academic identity and direction of the study program.
The event aimed to provide new students with a comprehensive understanding of the department’s orientation, emphasizing its long-term academic vision and strategic development plans. Lecturers from the department presented the key principles that guide the study program’s academic and professional journey.
The vision of the Department of Social Science Education is to become a center for the development of Social Science Education studies based on ethnopedagogy in Southeast Asia by 2039. This vision reflects the department’s strong commitment to integrating local wisdom into the broader context of social science education at both national and international levels.
In achieving this vision, the department outlined four missions:
To provide undergraduate education using interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary, and transdisciplinary approaches based on ethnopedagogy to enhance students’ competence in solving social problems at local, national, and international levels.
To conduct research related to the development of Social Science Education studies based on ethnopedagogy.
To carry out community service as a follow-up to research and development in Social Science Education based on ethnopedagogy, contributing solutions to social issues at multiple levels.
To establish collaborations with national and international institutions to advance education, research, and community engagement.
The goals of the program include producing professional social science educators who can apply ethnopedagogical approaches in their teaching, developing innovative learning products that introduce local potential to broader audiences, publishing ethnopedagogical research, implementing community service initiatives based on research findings, and expanding academic partnerships to strengthen the Tri Dharma of Higher Education (education, research, and service).
The department’s strategic plan is aligned with the institutional roadmap of Universitas Lambung Mangkurat and FKIP ULM—covering both short-term (2020–2025) and long-term (2020–2035) development goals. As a study program established in 2014, Social Science Education continues to strengthen its role in fostering educational innovation grounded in local wisdom and global relevance.
The socialization event served not only as an introduction for new students but also as an inspiration to embrace the values of ethnopedagogy and social responsibility embedded in the program’s academic framework. By understanding the department’s vision and mission, students are expected to actively contribute to realizing the goal of positioning ULM’s Social Science Education as a leading academic hub in Southeast Asia by 2039.
