SEA-Teacher Project: Social Studies Education Student of FKIP ULM Completes International Teaching Internship in the Philippines

A student from the Social Studies Education Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Lambung Mangkurat University (FKIP ULM), has successfully represented the university in an international exchange program. Hapijah, a student from the 2015 cohort, was selected to participate in the prestigious SEA-Teacher Project (Pre-service Student Teacher Exchange in Southeast Asia).

This program aims to enhance the quality of prospective teachers across Southeast Asia by offering hands-on teaching experience in schools located in neighboring countries. Hapijah was assigned to the Philippines and completed a one-month internship under a cost-sharing mechanism, where expenses are shared between the participant and the host institution.

Throughout the program, she engaged in a variety of meaningful activities, including classroom observations, team teaching with local educators, independent teaching sessions, and cultural immersion events with students and local communities.

Her participation provided valuable opportunities not only for professional growth but also for cross-cultural understanding, educational exchange, and the development of 21st-century teaching competencies.

Moreover, Hapijah took pride in introducing Indonesian culture, particularly from South Kalimantan and the Banjar region, to the school and local community in the Philippines.

This experience highlights ULM’s commitment to internationalizing its education programs and equipping its students with global perspectives that will support them in their future careers as educators and global citizens.
