Prospective PPG IPS Teachers Present Innovative Leadership Projects

The Social Studies Education Study Program of FKIP Universitas Lambung Mangkurat held the Leadership Project Exhibition on Saturday, May 24, 2025. The event was carried out by prospective teachers of the 2024 Batch 2 Teacher Professional Education (PPG) Program from the Social Studies Education discipline as part of the leadership project implementation. The program aimed to cultivate leadership spirit, creativity, and a sense of social responsibility among the participants.

Dr. Hidayah Ansori, M.Si., the PPG Coordinator, officially opened the event. Dr. Mutiani, M.Pd., the Head of the Social Studies Education Study Program, also attended the occasion. In his remarks, Dr. Hidayah Ansori expressed appreciation for the participants’ innovative spirit and emphasized the importance of collaboration between education and society in responding to contemporary challenges. Dr. Mutiani highlighted the role of social studies teachers as agents of social change who are sensitive to environmental, economic, and social issues.

Three featured projects were presented as the main outcomes of the participants’ collaborative work:

  • Purun Straws
This eco-friendly innovation uses purun (local reed plants) as the raw material for biodegradable straws, replacing single-use plastic straws. The project supports plastic waste reduction and empowers local resources.

  • Aromatherapy Candles from Used Cooking Oil
This initiative recycles household waste in the form of used cooking oil into functional and marketable aromatherapy candles. The project serves as a concrete example of circular economy practices.

  • Oyster Mushroom Cultivation
This cultivation project offers a solution for food security and economic opportunities for communities. Through an educational approach, the project encourages the use of limited land spaces in surrounding areas.

The event received enthusiastic responses from participants, supervising lecturers, and invited guests. Each group presented the project implementation process, the challenges faced, and the real impacts achieved in the target communities. The exhibition served not only as a showcase but also as a space for reflection and evaluation of action-based learning.

The prospective teachers demonstrated both pedagogical and professional competencies through their projects. The results proved their capacity to act as agents of social change in society. The projects are expected to continue and deliver long-term benefits, serving as inspiration for similar initiatives in the future.
