As part of the Differentiated Learning course project, Pre-Service Teacher Education Program (PPG) students of the second wave at Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) organized a public lecture entitled “Designing and Implementing Differentiated Learning in Middle Schools.” This academic event was held in Room 2 of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) at ULM and featured insightful presentations from three experienced educators.
The event was officially opened by Dr. Mutiani, M.Pd., Head of the Social Studies Education Department. In her speech, she expressed appreciation for the students’ initiative and highlighted that differentiated learning is essential in meeting the varied needs, backgrounds, and potentials of learners in inclusive classrooms.
“Differentiated learning is not a choice but a necessity in responding to classroom diversity. We must reach every student fairly and inclusively,” she stated.
Following the opening remarks, course lecturer Prof. Dr. Drs. Ersis Warmansyah Abbas, B.A., M.Pd., emphasized that the event aimed to deepen students’ practical understanding of differentiated instruction, equipping them with essential skills to become adaptive and innovative educators.
The public lecture featured the following distinguished speakers:
Aidil Rachman, M.Pd. – Principal of SMPN 14 Banjarbaru. Aidil discussed how school policies and structures can support the effective implementation of differentiated instruction. He elaborated on both institutional and technical approaches to help teachers apply differentiation strategies.
Yuli Wardinah, S.Pd. – A Leading Educator and Social Studies Teacher at SMPN 1 Banjarmasin. Yuli shared her classroom experience in using differentiated learning methods and their impact on enhancing student engagement. She also addressed challenges and practical solutions faced by teachers in adapting to this instructional model.
Rina Dwi Astuti, S.Pd., M.Pd. – A Leading Educator and Social Studies Teacher at SMPN 4 Banjarmasin. Rina presented techniques focused on skill development and independent learning through differentiated instruction. She provided real-life classroom examples of how differentiation works effectively in everyday teaching.
This public lecture provided valuable insights into best practices in differentiated learning and underscored the importance of creating inclusive, student-centered, and flexible learning environments. Through this activity, the PPG students are expected to strengthen their pedagogical competence and readiness to become impactful educators in a dynamic educational landscape.
