Banjarmasin – The Department of Social Science Education, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM), organized a Focused Discussion on Student Achievement and Leadership on Friday–Saturday, December 19–20, 2025. The activity was held at the Social Science Education Writing Laboratory of FKIP ULM and attended by students from the 2023, 2024, and 2025 cohorts.
The focused discussion featured Prof. Dr. Siti Nurbayani K., M.Si. as the main speaker. The session was conducted from 09:00 to 11:00 WITA and aimed to enhance students’ understanding of the importance of both academic and non-academic achievement, as well as to strengthen leadership character within the campus environment.
In her presentation, Prof. Dr. Siti Nurbayani K., M.Si. emphasized that students are not only expected to excel academically but are also encouraged to actively develop leadership skills, organizational management abilities, and social awareness. According to her, student leadership plays a crucial role in shaping character and preparing students to face future challenges in both professional and societal contexts.
She also highlighted student involvement in the ULM Impactful Village Development Program (Bina Desa Berdampak ULM 2025) as a concrete example of meaningful student engagement. Such activities are not merely forms of community service but can also be recognized as achievements and valuable leadership experiences. These accomplishments may be formally recorded through the Student Achievement and Career Center (PPK) and are aligned with student development programs under the Directorate of Learning and Student Affairs (BELMAWA), thereby enhancing students’ academic portfolios and competency development.
The discussion took place in an interactive and dynamic atmosphere, marked by high enthusiasm from participants. Students from various cohorts actively posed questions, shared perspectives, and discussed their experiences related to academic achievements, organizational involvement, and community service programs undertaken during their studies.
Through this focused discussion, students of the Department of Social Science Education FKIP ULM are expected to become more motivated to enhance their achievements, strengthen leadership capacities, and actively participate in activities that generate positive impacts for the university and the wider community.
