Banjarmasin, December 8, 2025 — Efforts to enhance community digital capacity continue to be strengthened by academic institutions through empowerment programs that address real needs at the grassroots level. This commitment was demonstrated in a Community Service Program led by Dr. Mutiani, M.Pd, Head of the Department of Social Science Education, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), Universitas Lambung Mangkurat (ULM), held on Monday (December 8) in Benua Anyar Subdistrict, Banjarmasin. The activity carried the theme “Empowering Benua Anyar Youth Through Smartphone Optimization in Producing Digital Content.”
The program was officially opened by representatives of Benua Anyar Subdistrict, who emphasized that the ability to utilize technology—particularly smartphones—has become an essential skill for communities across all sectors. In their remarks, they expressed appreciation to FKIP ULM for its ongoing contribution to strengthening digital literacy at the local level.
The activity was attended by members of the local Karang Taruna youth organization, women’s community groups (Ibu PKK), small business owners (UMKM), and lecturers from the Department of Social Science Education FKIP ULM. The high level of enthusiasm from participants reflected the growing need for digital skills, especially in supporting business promotion and enhancing community-based initiatives.
As the main speaker, Dr. Mutiani, M.Pd delivered material on how smartphones can serve as accessible, affordable, and effective tools for producing digital content. She introduced participants to several fundamental techniques, including basic photography and videography, content scripting, and the use of simple editing applications available on mobile devices.
The training emphasized not only theory but also hands-on practice. Participants were guided to create photo and video content featuring local MSME products, community empowerment activities, and youth-led initiatives. Each participant produced content aligned with their group or business identity, making the activity highly practical and relevant to their daily needs.
The session was marked by dynamic interactions. Members of Karang Taruna expressed interest in developing their organization’s social media presence to publicize youth activities. Local MSME owners highlighted the importance of engaging visual content as a strategy to expand product marketing reach. Meanwhile, members of Ibu PKK emphasized the significance of digital literacy for women in improving family welfare.
Through this program, residents of Benua Anyar gained new insights into maximizing smartphones as tools that support both economic and social activities. The initiative also reaffirmed the strategic role of higher education institutions—particularly the Department of Social Science Education FKIP ULM—in helping communities adapt to technological advancements in the digital era.
The activity concluded with a group photo session involving participants, facilitators, and subdistrict representatives as a symbol of collaboration and shared commitment. The community service program led by Dr. Mutiani, M.Pd is expected to inspire the community of Benua Anyar to continue developing digital skills and producing creative, impactful content that benefits their surroundings.
