ULM Social Science Education Lecturers Enhance Digital Competence through Microsoft Office Training and Certification
Surabaya, October 8–10, 2025 — Lecturers from the Social Science Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), Universitas Lambung Mangkurat (ULM), demonstrated their strong commitment to strengthening digital literacy by participating in the Microsoft Office Certified (MOC) and National Professional Certification Agency (BNSP) training and certification program.
The three-day activity, held at TRUST System Surabaya, was attended by seven lecturers: Sigit Triyono, S.Pd., M.Pd.; Rusmaniah, S.Pd., M.Pd.; Raihanah, S.Pd., M.Pd.; M. Ridha Ilhami, S.Pd., M.Pd.; Syarifuddin, S.Pd., M.Pd.; Fatwa Nur’aini, S.Pd., M.Pd.; and Sovia Husni Rahmia, M.Pd.
Intensive Training on Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
The second day of training was filled with enthusiasm as participants focused on mastering three core Microsoft applications: Excel, PowerPoint, and Word. The Excel session introduced data management fundamentals, including the use of formulas, tables, pivot tables, charts, and data visualization techniques. In the PowerPoint session, participants learned to design impactful presentations using SmartArt, Charts, multimedia elements, and animations. Meanwhile, the Word session emphasized professional document preparation, formatting, and efficiency through templates, mail merge, and styles.
Conducted with a hands-on learning approach, the training allowed participants to directly practice each skill under the guidance of certified instructors from TRUST System. This experiential approach helped the lecturers gain not only technical knowledge but also practical competence applicable to academic and administrative contexts.
Seven Lecturers Earn International Microsoft Office Certification
The training culminated with the Microsoft Office Certified (MOC) examination held on October 10, 2025. Of the seven participants, three successfully earned Microsoft Excel certification, two earned Microsoft Word certification, and two earned Microsoft PowerPoint certification.
This achievement reflects the dedication of ULM’s Social Science Education lecturers to mastering digital technology as part of the university’s educational transformation. The international certification assesses participants’ abilities not only in technical operation but also in applying Microsoft applications for digital learning and academic administration.
Commitment to Advancing Digital Transformation in Education
The Head of the Department of Social Science Education at ULM expressed appreciation for the lecturers’ accomplishments.
“This certification demonstrates our lecturers’ commitment to advancing digital competence. Having internationally certified Microsoft Office proficiency will strengthen their ability to develop technology-based teaching materials and enhance the overall quality of education at ULM,” he stated.
Beyond individual skill development, this achievement supports ULM’s ongoing digital transformation initiative. With internationally certified lecturers, the Social Science Education Study Program aims to play an active role in promoting technology-driven learning models, digital media innovation, and efficient academic management.
One of the participants also shared positive impressions from the program.
“This training broadened our perspective on how Microsoft applications can be optimized for teaching, research, and community service activities,” she said.
The activity marks a significant step forward for the Department of Social Science Education, FKIP ULM, in enhancing lecturers’ digital competence and professionalism in the era of educational technology transformation. Through this certification, ULM lecturers are now better prepared to face the demands of 21st-century education, which requires collaboration, innovation, and strong digital literacy.
