Banjarmasin — The Department of Social Science Education, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), Universitas Lambung Mangkurat (ULM), once again demonstrated its commitment to improving students’ academic quality through the organization of the 2026 Scientific Writing Training Program. This activity served as one of the department’s strategic programs aimed at strengthening students’ competencies in research, academic literacy, and systematic scholarly writing.
The training was conducted over three days and attended by students from various academic cohorts within the Department of Social Science Education FKIP ULM. The program was carried out in an interactive and enthusiastic academic atmosphere. Participants received comprehensive guidance on the fundamentals of scientific writing, research proposal development, academic citation and referencing techniques, scholarly article writing, and thesis preparation in accordance with academic standards.
The activity was initiated in response to the growing importance of scientific writing skills as a fundamental competency for university students in today’s research-oriented academic environment. The Department of Social Science Education FKIP ULM believes that students are not only expected to understand educational theories, but also to communicate ideas, research findings, and critical perspectives through academically accountable scientific writing.
The training featured experienced academics and practitioners in the fields of research and scholarly publication. One of the speakers, Yuliani, S.E., M.M., emphasized that scientific writing skills represent a long-term investment for students.
“Scientific writing skills are not only beneficial during university studies, but also become an essential asset when students enter professional careers as educators, researchers, or other professionals who are required to produce academically accountable ideas and works,” she stated.
In addition to presentation sessions, the program also included writing practices, group discussions, academic consultations, and evaluations of students’ written work. Students actively participated in discussions and confidently presented various research topics they were currently developing. The activity helped students improve their confidence in organizing and presenting academic ideas in a more systematic and structured manner.
The organizing committee also prepared digital learning modules containing presentation materials, recordings of important sessions, examples of high-quality scientific papers, and evaluation sheets that students could use for independent learning after the training concluded.
The program also strengthened academic collaboration between the Department of Social Science Education FKIP ULM and ASMI Citra Nusantara Banjarmasin as a partner institution in academic development initiatives. This collaboration is expected to expand into broader partnerships, including guest lecturer exchanges, joint academic activities, and other collaborative academic programs in the future.
Based on the evaluation results, most participants stated that the training was highly relevant to their academic needs, particularly for final-year students who were preparing research proposals and undergraduate theses. The overall level of participant satisfaction was also exceptionally high, especially regarding the quality of speakers, the relevance of the materials, and the interactive and easily understandable delivery methods.
The department reaffirmed its commitment to making the Scientific Writing Training Program an annual agenda included in the official academic calendar of the Department of Social Science Education FKIP ULM. In the future, the program will be further developed through individual mentoring sessions, scientific writing clinics, and academic publication assistance for students.
The 2026 Scientific Writing Training Program officially concluded on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, with the presentation of certificates to all participants and speakers as a form of appreciation for their active participation throughout the event. The Department of Social Science Education FKIP ULM hopes that this activity will become the starting point for students to produce innovative and high-quality scientific works that contribute meaningfully to the advancement of knowledge and education.
